If your dog has arthritis, or is up in years and getting less active, then the best dog beds to purchase should just be a memory foam dog bed. Memory foam in human beds forms the person body, giving full support to the parts of their body. The tiny polyurethane cells return to their initial condition as the person gets up the cells get cooler. This kind of bed is used to aid people with arthritis or with hip or spine injuries, so manufacturers of pet supplies ultimately realized that this kind of pet bed will furnish the same benefits for dogs with such problems.

Memory foam dog beds will be better dog beds for large dogs with this condition. The dogs will need extra support for a weight problem. But larger breeds also having a tendency to hip dysplasia, a disease that degenerates the joints up to the time the hips may not fit their sockets properly. The muscles near the rump become frail, and the dog may suffer pain and difficulty with walking or lying comfortably. A memory foam dog bed will aid as an orthopedic dog bed, and give support for the joints and relief for hurting sore muscles, caused by dysplasia or from being overweight.

Some people provide heated dog beds for their companions with joint issues, but it’s possible that memory foam dog beds do better. A benefit of memory foam is its breath-ability. This means that it keeps the warmth and heat in wintertime, but is cooler in the summer when overheating maybe a problem. The extra winter warmth of memory foam dog beds is what may make the beds nicer for arthritic animals, they would keep the dog’s body heat when it’s needed, but would also provide protection against floor temperatures that might be a little too cool at night.

Also remember that even if these small memory foam mattresses will be better dog beds when it comes to support and comfort, you would still provide protection against an over enthusiastic chewer. You would need a firm cover to put over the mattress and keep the dog from chewing on the polyurethane. But memory foam can help furnish quality orthopedic dog beds for older dogs or those with arthritis or other joint problems. It will be valuable going that extra mile if it benefits your dog sleep more comfortably.
