There isn’t a depot to drop off your computer in Ontario. What if we could become acomputer recycling Ontario ? I think that it would be great and there is probably something around just you don’t know about it yet. If everyone took a minute to find a way to get rid of their own computers it would decrease the landfill. I say this because they are getting fuller and fuller and a lot of it is not degradable. There is sometimes a community event held where you can drop off your old parts, paint cans, monitors to be disposed of safely.
If that isn’t for you or you don’t know how to get hold of anyone to help you then you can get on the phone. Contact the maker of your computer and let them know you upgraded, they will instruct you how to send back the computer so they can reuse the parts. You will only have to pay the shipping costs instead. This usually isn’t pricey either but worth getting the hunker out of the house.
There are alternatives to that too. You can give your computer to someone that needs it that you know. Maybe they just need a few working parts and you have them. Maybe it is a family with a child that is starting to do research and papers for school and need it to write and get on the Internet for basic stuff.
You can always sell your tower or parts on a online site, put a add in the newspaper or just give it to someone that you know. There are always people posting ads for old broken down computers that are willing to pay a price to take it off your hands.
Call for donations to local units in your area. Like I said we all need one. I call up a association like the Diabetes Association because they can always use the help and someone can always use what they have there in the warehouse. As much fun as they are some people just cant afford one.
Technology changes nearly daily and it is sometimes crazy. You might need a program that you can only use on a new computer. Sometimes no one has the money so they hold on till that last second where it just doesn’t work anymore. There are always more costs to add to the cost of buying a computer. They are just aren’t cheap anymore.
Maybe you have a friend that is in need of a computer. Perhaps if it is still running you can send it to the next person that could really use one. All it takes is one simple act of kindness.
As the people at the store when you buy your computer if there is a way to dispose your old computer. Maybe someone back in the tech office knows what you can do with your old computer. It never hurts to ask and you don’t know, maybe they have just the answer you were looking for anyway.
You can also call your city hall and see if they are aware of a site you can go to drop it off. More than likely there is something to that effect available in the city where you live. With the changes to our enviroment and the way the land fills are filling because of our growing population there is something going in the town where you live. I can almost guarante that there is some program somewhere that can help you.
