Clorox Green Works Natural Glass and Surface Cleaner
In March 2008, Clorox launched a new line of green cleaning products derived from 95-99% natural, sustainable and
biodegradable materials, which are not tested on animals. This line includes Clorox Green Works Natural Glass and
Surface Cleaner, General Purpose Cleaner, Toilet Bowl Cleaner, Dilutable Cleaner and Bathroom Cleaner. The 99% natural
Glass and Surface Cleaner uses no phosphorus or bleach, instead using corn-based ethanol, a coconut-based cleaning agent,
glycerine, soda ash, filtered water and essential oils. Clorox received a prestigious endorsement from the Sierra Club,
as well as recognition from the EPA for "safer chemistry" and the Good Housekeeping seal of approval.
There are several reviews for the Clorox Green Works Natural Glass and Surface Cleaner on the Clorox website.
Aside from one consumer who found the product to be a little streaky, four other consumers gave the product a
5/5 rating. "It works wonders on my new glass/ceramic stove top," said a reviewer from Pottstown,
Pennsylvania. Another anonymous reviewer adds, "I got this product not
expecting it will clean as good as other brands that contains toxic
chemicals, but it actually works very well!" There are other reviews
posted on www.amazon.com that are very favorable as well; alluding to
the "great smell" and "fair price."
Of course, not all consumers are wholly satisfied with the Clorox
Green Works Natural Glass and Surface Cleaner. One reviewer on the
Clorox website reported, "I'm surprised that people thought that this
was streak free. I've washed my windows three or four times now trying
to get the streaks off." A similar report was published at the Associated
Content website, where a reviewer mentioned that she "wiped that mirror
about 50 times and there were still some small streaks left behind on
the glass, no matter what," which she surmised was due to the coconut-based
cleaning agent. A consumer at www.ecohuddle.com said that she preferred
the Seventh Generation products and didn't like that it "foamed up when
sprayed on glass," which had her scrubbing to get the glass clean. Lastly,
there are some concerns that the Clorox products aren't 100% environmentally
sound, with a few questionable ingredients. Critics suggest that, while
better than petroleum-derived products, their coconut-derived and corn-oil-derived
ingredients may still be responsible for rainforest habitat destruction.
"I'm thrilled to see a major manufacturer like Clorox begin to take
a leadership role in the green cleaning movement," says TV host Kathy
Peterson. "Not only is it important that we all start thinking about
using products like Green Works, but it's also great to know that companies
like Clorox are giving consumers natural, effective options for all
of their house cleaning needs." The Clorox Green Works Natural Glass and Surface Cleaner
is available at just about every grocery store or you can purchase a 32-ounce bottle for
$3.63 at www.amazon.com. The reasonable price is a far cry from many
of the other green glass cleaners, which sell for $4-$5 per bottle.

The manufacturer says this product is "perfect for all grease and protein stains, such as blood, egg, grass, mud, milk, sweat and ice cream," although it's not recommended for wool, silk and delicate fabrics.
Natural 2X Concentrated Laundry Detergent
The new Natural 2X Concentrated Laundry Detergent is said to be an improved version of their regular Natural detergent, using even less resources to make and lasting much longer. In June of 2009, New York Magazine squared off "goliath" Tide Laundry Detergent against "green" Seventh Generation Blue Eucalyptus & Lavender Natural Laundry Detergent. Critics paid $6.
Bio Kleen Bac-Out with Foaming Sprayer
Peggy from Virginia said she "was hopeful this would be a useful product and healthy for the environment," but she was disappointed to find it "wasn't that effective in stain or odor removal." Instead of the Bio Kleen Bac-Out with Foaming Sprayer, she recommends using regular white vinegar before washing. This was the only negative criticism of the actual product, though.
