One of the more effective ways to get your business reach a wider audience is through Internet marketing. Whether you have your own website or no, SEO can help your business rise up the search engine ranks. After all, many more people are using the Internet now rather than the yellow pages. So to have your business appear in the top ranks in searches can help a lot. However, marketers are not created equal. Some are adept at it while others plain fail.
Here are 3 steps to NOT do when doing Internet marketing:
1. Spammy Content
When doing SEO or search engine optimization, for your online business, you will have to create some content to distribute. Using article services like Ezine are great, as well as creating blogs. But some take this to a whole new level by making the content too spammy. How does spammy content look? In a nutshell they are the ones that look like it was written by a hundred monkeys with typewriters. They are nonsense and links are blatantly scattered all throughout. Do this, and you will be shunned by customers as well as get banned by Google.
2. Overzealous Submissions
When you have enough content, you would like to distribute them so as to have a fair number of backlinks pointing back to your site. Using distribution services is key here. But if you go about it manually, what you would want to avoid is overzealous submissions. What this means is, say you have twenty articles that are optimized and ready to be submitted. No matter how awesome the articles are, if you send them all at the same time in the same service, chances are Google will take notice and ban you outright. Don’t rush.
3. Responsible Freedom Of Speech
This is more applicable to people who like to comment on other blogs and forums to create backlinks, but this applies to other applications as well like in social media and blog networks as well. You are given a freedom to comment and create discussions in various blogs and fora. You can link to your site if done sparingly, but make sure your comments make sense and are on topic. Don’t blatantly abuse this privilege by making comments that are off-topic, or worse, saying nothing except linking to your site. This is a recipe for having your IP address banned.
These three are not the end all and be all however. there are many more tips and tricks on what to do, and more more advice on what NOT to do. This list is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. But at least it gives you an idea on how to think when you go ahead and become an Internet marketer. If you do these, you will look crass and unethical. This is bad because you are tainting your good name even before you become famous. Though some techniques in SEO are questionable at best, try not to taint it further by doing classless acts. To learn what it takes to be a fine Internet marketer, try to follow blogs of experts to gain insights on what and what not to do.
