Is Selling On eBay Hard Work?

Easy AdSense by Unreal

Back in high school, I had a summer job as a corn detassler. (If you didn’t know, corn detassling involves taking the tassel out of a corn stock to create seed corn.) I would wake up earlier than I wanted to, eat a quick bite of breakfast, and then rush out the door to a stop where a bus would take me and the other workers out to the corn field just as the sun comes up. Maybe you haven’t had the privilege of going out into a corn field early in the morning. Let me tell you, it’s not a very good place to be. The corn is usually soaking wet from the morning dew. There are usually hundreds of insects hopping around, with the most common being a grasshopper. They’d often bounce onto us as we entered the field. Getting in was always the hardest, because I went from being warm and dry to being cold and wet and covered in bugs.

After working a full 10 hour day in the fields, I would then head home and collapse into bed exhausted. The next day, I’d do it all over again.

Maybe you’re asking, “what does this have to do with selling on eBay?” Well the answer is that many people who want to start selling online expect everything to be easy. While I do believe that eBay is the quickest and easiest way to make money online, that doesn’t mean that you won’t be challenged by it. That’s why I started off by telling my story about corn detasseling. Yes it was hard work, and the first time I did it, I didn’t know what was happening. It was a slow process to learn. It was hard. Even when I did know what to do, it wasn’t easy to get going in the morning.

Yet as I continued to work in the fields, the hard work began to be a little bit easier. In fact, I started to enjoy it. Yes the fields were still wet and full of bugs in the morning, but that was all part of it. I knew that I was doing a better job, and making more money as a result. I kept going even though it was hard to start. I stepped outside my comfort zone and found that it got easier.

Think about an experience in your life where you’ve pushed harder than you have before. Maybe it was to start something new, or to achieve a particular goal. Remember what that feels like. Now take that feeling of intensity and apply it to opening up an eBay business. Yes, you’ll find some challenges with eBay, as with any business that you plan to open. But in the big picture, opening an eBay business is one of the easier ways to get started.

You don’t have to battle hard labor, like I did in the fields. You won’t have to fight the chill in the morning, or the blazing heat in the afternoon. The hardest labor you’ll have to do is put something in a box and take it to the post office.

The conclusion? eBay isn’t hard work. Don’t make excuses. Have the right attitude and don’t let anything hold you back. If you work hard, you’ll see almost instant success with eBay.
