You really do not have to get shafted, yes?
Backing up your own WordPress Weblog is one of those steps that a number of people remarkably disregard and just plain ignore.
Frankly, I don’t comprehend it.
Quite possibly it’s due to the fact people believe nothing terrible will happen to all their work they’ve worked so hard to post and put up on their website. With technology in the world today I believe folks have the mindset that web site hosting companies are so cutting-edge with redundancy and also data backup that their hosting provider is going to take proper care of their website.
Don’t bet on it.
You’ve without a doubt determined the challenge ‘why blogging‘, so do not lose all the hard work which you’ve put in to it!
You’ve already determined the challenge why, so do not lose all the hard work which you’ve put in to it!
I’m not suggesting there aren’t high quality web hosting companies out there who will manage website backups to suit your needs since there are. But suppose something happened to their backups? You’re in big trouble, pure and simple. And when your blog data is wiped out…
It’s really easy to backup your WordPress blog. Plus it won’t cost you any money! Stay with me…
Rather than give you a writeup on WordPress plug ins you can go over to back up your website I’m gonna endorse the plug-in that I personally use with my WordPress websites.
Now, you are free to go to WordPress.org and look over different back up plug ins. I simply wanted to share with you what I use simply because I like it the best. It is of course, up to you.
WordPress Database Backup
WordPress Database Backup is a great plugin created by Austin Matzko. WordPress Database Backup builds a data backup of your WordPress tables (tables are your data…posts, etc…) and also other information you can select in the same database.
The plug-in is straightforward to implement. You can download it here at this link: http://austinmatzko.com/wordpress-plugins/wp-db-backup/ and use your FTP software program to upload it in your WordPress Plugin directory.
However as you may likely know nowadays, you can download and install plug ins right from your WordPress admin page.
Just login to your WordPress blog, and click on the ‘Plugins’ link on the left sidebar and after that click on the ‘add new’ link near the top of the page. Next type in ‘WordPress Database Backup’ and this should be the first result. If not, it’ll be close to the top. Then just click install, and go set up the plug-in.
Here’s an essential step that must not be forgotten. You actually have got to generate a backup of your blog! Trust me, people forget to perform this step! Seriously, it is as necessary as how do you set up a blog…therefore do not neglect this.
Now, you can actually go in to your configuration settings and schedule automatic backup copies. However, I prefer to do a back-up manually and then save my backup as a data file. Might be I’m just weird.
You’ll see towards the top where you can do a backup. The plugin will notify you as soon as it’s completed.
What I highly recommend you do next is save the back up data file to some separate location like a CD-ROM, external harddrive for those who have one or perhaps a provider such as Dropbox. I prefer Dropbox and simply put, Dropbox is the best!
My professional recommendation is always to keep several backup copies of your blog. In other words, keep the last five backups you carried out in order to be safe. Better safe than sorry…correct?
That’s it. You will now relax knowing that your blog’s data is secure in the event of a disaster and your webhost comes crashing down. Then you can say, “Heh!! I’m backed up baby!”
