Contrary to what most people think, woodworking doesn’t require large investments in tools and equipments. There are plenty woodworking power tools or hand devices that can be found at reasonable prices, allowing you to be more efficient and reduce downtime considerably. It is always important, especially in woodworking and other such tasks, to make use of reliable tools that won’t get damaged quickly.

If you have decided to approach woodworking either as a hobby or a part-time job, you should know there are two basic categories of tools on the market. First of all, there are woodworking power tools you can find useful. These devices are powered by electricity, so it is obvious they can help you cut more wood and shape it the way you want it with little or no effort at all. These devices are best cutting and shaping large surfaces of wood, without damaging the surface or leaving anaesthetic marks.

The first tool you should consider buying for woodworking purposes is the circular saw. This tool is not quite easy to use, and without the proper information and safety measures, you can get injured in serious ways. That is why you should make sure to read the instructions carefully and use the tool according to the producer’s instructions. The circular saw is used for all types of woodworking tasks, so you can find a good use for it.

In this category, other popular tools used frequently in woodworking are the jigsaw, used for completing curved and circular patterns, the palm and orbital sanders, used for sanding the wood and leaving the surface free of sanding marks or the router, very useful for adding details on the surface of the wood. Some tools are more expensive than others, but you should know your needs and buy the devices you really need.

The other category of devices contains woodworking hand tools, used by people for tasks that require increased accuracy. If the wood can be cut with a jigsaw, details and ornaments cannot be added for creating astonishing pieces only manually. These tools are not about increased efficiency, but about precision, accuracy and great detailing. Clamps, planes, hammers and woodworking chisels are of great use in woodworking.

It is up to you to decide which tools fit you best at this moment in time. If you are inexperienced in woodworking, you might want to take it slow and work with basic tools for starters.
